What does my day look like as an OT in postpartum care?
Women's health is an emerging practice area...meaning that occupational therapists have not historically been in women's health specifically. Though, occupational therapists may have informally worked with women regarding women issues (eg. NICU occupational therapy practitioner working with new mothers) in a limited capacity. This means that occupational therapy practitioners are trailblazing. They are drafting the image that will embody OT in areas such as maternal care in the primary care provider setting, hospital setting, and outpatient settings following birth.
I have spent several weeks in postpartum care, troubleshooting the most effective schedule I can for my circumstances. I share my experience here to help guide the torchbearers that come behind me.
